Dr Balder Onarheim
School of Design
A winter on the Norwegian-Russian border with the Norwegian Army Officer School taught me to appreciate the importance of good product design. This interest resulted in a masters degree in Industrial Design from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. During this time my curiosity evolved from army gear to medical equipment. Building on a master thesis on Design Psychology and experiences with nanotechnology sensors and ambulance aircraft design, I wrote the PhD 'Creativity under Constraints' in collaboration with the Danish medical company Coloplast and Copenhagen Business School. This focused on developing strategies for sustaining creativity in over-constrained domains. Currently this PhD is used as the basis for CINC.device, a tech spin-off from Copenhagen Institute of NeuroCreativity (CINC). In parallel I'm an assistant professor at the Technical University of Denmark, and an external lecturer at Copenhagen Business School. In his limited spare time Balder is either in the woods, on water, or involved in hopelessly idealistic projects.
