DR LEAH HEISS

My main research interest is to understand the molecular level interactions of biomolecules with surfaces. I have obtained the BSc. with Honours from the Department of Chemistry in University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2011. I have pursued my PhD from the Department of Chemistry of Mississippi State University, USA in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Dongmao Zhang. The PhD research was mainly focused on studying the interfacial interactions of plasmonic nanoparticles with biomolecules and electrolytes. I was awarded as the Most Outstanding Graduate Researcher Award in Chemistry Department of Mississippi State University in 2017 for the research work conducted during my PhD career including 14 journal article publications. Upon completion of PhD, I worked as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Department of Chemistry of University Michigan, USA for 1 year under the supervision of Prof. Zhan Chen. Probing the intermolecular interactions of antibodies on silicone surfaces using the sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy was the main research focus during my post-doctoral studies. Currently, I am working in Prof. Sharath Sriram’s group in RMIT University, Australia as a Research Fellow focusing on developing novel nanotechnology-enabled biosensors based on metal oxide platforms to detect cardiac biomarkers.
