Dr Rebecca Van Amber

Dr. Rebecca Van Amber has had a diverse career across the fashion & textiles industry and several countries, starting out with a bachelor of science, clothing design at the University of Minnesota. She spent 9 years at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand where she undertook a Masters, PhD and postdoc in Clothing and Textile Science, specialising in research and development of textile test methods and experimental design for protein fibres, socks and skin health. Dr. Van Amber then moved to Australia in 2016 where she took up a postdoctoral fellowship at Deakin University, where she was part of the “denim dyed denim” team which was awarded one of the H&M Foundations Global Change awards in 2017. In 2018 she took up the position of Senior Lecturer and Program Manager of Textile Design at RMIT University, where she has been heavily involved in developing RMIT’s new suite of Fashion & Textile degrees, particularly the Bachelor of Fashion and Textiles (Sustainable Innovation) which will be rolled out in 2020.
