Dr Scott Mitchell
School of Design
Scott Mitchell holds an undergraduate honours degree in fine art and a PhD in design. He is a practicing artist and works across a diverse array of fields from public sculpture to interactive objects and environments. He exhibits widely as both an individual artist and as part of the collaborative groups Open Spatial Workshop with Bianca Hester and Terri Bird, Theory of Rainbows with Saskia Schut and Open Source Urbanism with Rory Hyde. As a lecturer and researcher within Industrial Design, Scott’s interests lie in exploring the field of interaction design, networked objects and data rich environments. Orientated by terms such as tangible interaction, ambient technology and the Internet of Things, his teaching and research is based in electronic prototyping and iterative design processes. Scott is particularly interested in design as a speculative tool for exploring emergent technologies and social norms.
